Our Ethos

We are on a mission to transform interiors for the better through the power of biophilic design. We believe the furniture and products we choose should enhance our mental well-being, while also making our environments more beautiful and enjoyable.

By incorporating our products into your space you can create environments that people are drawn to, encouraging them to relax, connect, and linger longer in a setting they truly enjoy.

Biophilic Design

Biophilic design is at the heart of all our products. Biophilic design is a scientifically grounded practice that focuses on incorporating natural elements and materials to counter the growing disconnect between people and nature.

Huus is here to dramatically reimagine our interiors for the better and enhance human well-being, particularly within nature deprived urban environments.

Sustainability

At Huus, we firmly believe that exceptional design should never be detrimental to our planet. Biophilic design is a holistic approach that blends scientific understanding with a deep, personal connection to nature and the world around us. Truly great biophilic design is crafted with respect and care for the natural elements that inspire it. We are committed to finding practical ways to create in harmony with nature, such as using biodegradable or recycled materials, ensuring our work contributes positively to both people and the environment.

Design for All

Huus is dedicated to inclusivity in the built environment. Founder Freyja Sewell, who is herself Level 1 ASD, brings her personal lived experience into the design of our products, creating furniture that enhances interior spaces to better support neurodiversity. Our story… Huus pods meet the requirements for a Certified Autism Resource (CAR) by the International Board of Credentialing and Continuing Education Standards (IBCCES). This means that our pods meet the requirements and needs of people with autism spectrum disorders. IBCCES is an independent certification board specializing in cognitive disorders.

About Freyja Sewell

Long before Freyja knew she was Autistic, she was drawn to small, safe spaces. As a child she would clamber into underbed drawers or cupboards. As she grew older and moved from the peaceful country side of Cornwall to the urban landscapes of London and Tokyo, the desire to create safe, private spaces only increased. In 2011, after her first of many periods of living in Japan she designed and created the first Hush Pod as part of her graduation project from the University of Brighton. Inspired by capsule hotels and organic forms, the Hush Pod went viral and won awards, including the Green Hero Award at Grand Designs Live, cementing its place in design history.

After more time living and working in Japan and UK, Freyja built up a portfolio of different types of pods, from low budget interventions for charity, to large, technology integrated commissions from brands like Unilever. During this time she sold repeatedly to Google, Selfridges and many others.

Freyja has always drawn from her love of nature, inspired by natural forms and materials. Eventually the industry caught up and Biophilic design became has become more and more recognised for the mental and physical wellbeing it promotes. This combined with her own diagnosis of Autism in 2025, and the emergence of Neuroarchitecture, to inspire the creation of the Huus brand.

Huus is a word Freyja has invented to describe the specific feeling of pleasure she feels when moving from a noisy public space, to a quieter, private one. She knew that others like her would be looking for the same thing, and is now on a mission to bring rest and regulation to busy interiors across the world.
